Winter Hair Care Tips

You want your hair to be healthy and beautiful year round, but during the winter months it is exposed to so many elements, it is important to take a few extra steps to ensure it is protected.

The easiest thing you can do is keep it covered when you go outdoors.  A hat or a scarf will limit the amount of cold and wind that your hair is exposed to.  Just be careful not to wear anything too tight because you want to make sure you keep a health scalp circulation.

Use a good conditioner each day, and consider doing a deep condition at least once a week.  You can buy a heavy conditioner at your local beauty supply store, apply it to your hair, and then cover it with plastic for 20-30 minutes, allowing the heat from your scalp to open your pores and the hair shafts for full penetration.  After you rinse your conditioner out, do a final rinse with cold water to close the pores and hair shaft again and lock in the moisture.

Under no circumstances should you be outdoors with wet hair.  Not only will it increase your chances of getting sick, but it will allow your hair to become brittle and literally break.  Conversely, limit the amount of heating appliances you use on your hair such as hair dryers, curling irons, and hot rollers.  Heat dries hair out, and using too much will make your hair as crispy as a twig—and just as easy to break.

If you find your hair is drying out, try washing your hair with shampoo every other day or switching to a much gentler formula.  You may even want to consider a baby shampoo.

Following these winter hair care tips will keep you locks gorgeous no matter how cold it gets outside.
