Many of us want to look younger for as long as possible. However, few of us do what we can to achieve this goal. A sign of a youthful complexion is great looking skin. We an all think of people that look great for their age. Now when I make this statement I am talking about people "we know" rather than celebrities.
Stop and ask yourself "Why does that person look so young?" Chances are they have great looking skin. Now there is probably billions of dollars spent every year on skin creams, ointments, mousses and treatments and these certainly have a value but the best way to achieve healthy skin is a combination of inside out as well at the outward cosmetic treatments.
What is also true is that the way we treat our skin has to change with the seasons. With that in mind in this first part of our two part article lets look at the first five of the Top 10 Winter Skin Care Tips.
Our first tip is perhaps the most important and can be very challenging. It is something we have no trouble doing in the summer months but come the cold days of winter we are less inclined to want to do. What is it? Drink water. Forget the lotions and potions the number 1 way to healthy skin is to keep it hydrated. In winter we usually increase our consumption of hot teas and coffees at the expense of water.
The second tip is an outer treatment but is nonetheless related to the first. In winter we use heating systems to keep ourselves warm. Because we usually spend more time indoors using the heating has the effect of drying out our skin. For this reason use of a humidifier can help greatly by increasing the moisture content of the air being circulated.
Our third tip is to change your moisturizing routine. What works in the summer is not going to be as effective for you in the winter. If you use a water based moisturizer you will want to consider a switch to an oil based solution for winter. Not all ointments are equal however so make sure your choice is nonclogging. Look for oils like advocado, almond, mineral or primrose.
Tip four is another overlooked external treatment. What do we use regularly in the summer but rarely if ever in the winter? Sunscreen. The winter sun, wind and snow glare can all damage your skin. Use a minimum SPF 15 or alternatively choose a product that combines a sunscreen with a moisturizer.
Our final tip for today is perhaps the most important. We all have different skin types so in selecting the most appropriate treatment plan this must be taken into account. Keeping things simple there are three types of skin, dry and sensitive, balanced and oily.
