Cleaning Clutter - How To Declutter Your House & Free Your Mind - Part One

Is clutter affecting your life?  I can state without any fear of contradiction that clutter has a major affect on your health and wellbeing.  But, for many years I resisted the truth of this fact.

You see I read a book, I don't remember which one now, that said if you declutter you make room in your life, not only for new possessions, but also new experiences.  In other words you are making room to allow new opportunities into your life.

At the time I remember thinking baloney and cast the information to one side without giving it further thought.  Some years later I was feeling particularly overwhelmed.  After a stressful work day I returned home and was simply engulfed by my emotions.

To cope I began clearing out the junk in our home that had been accumulated over the years.  When I was finished I was completely elated and renewed.  With the detritus removed I began to think about remodeling some rooms.

Isn't that interesting?  With the junk gone I began to think about how I would like my home to look.  I hadn't stopped to think or care about that for years.

Outside the home things started to happen as well.  Because I had cleared the clutter in my home I had cleared my mind and over the next few months generated countless new opportunities and ideas that further stimulated my desire to move in a new direction.

I know it sounds bizarre but I am not alone in this view.  Of course, having cleared my own clutter I then started noticing others who had done the same and even saw a feature on Oprah which sealed my conviction on the matter.

So, if your feeling overwhelmed, cramped, crowded out in your mind take a look at your environment.  Does the office look like a junk store?  Is there space to move in your home?  Is there room in your closet? What about the garage?

If you've run out of space in your home to store things it will affect your state of mind.  Don't believe me?  Then just try it out for yourself.  In a future article we will share our top 10 tips to declutter your life.

Clutter really does effect your ability to see things clearly. The clutter controls your space, which in turn hinders your ability to manage your affairs.

I recently helped someone de-clutter their large home, something I do on the side - simplify. A single person living in a large three story home with 25 years worth of stuff, who couldn’t move on because of the stuff everywhere. When we removed the excessive furniture, nick-nacks and slowed daily purchasing habits we were able to remove more than half of the homes possessions.

With this simple and long step, the house was sold and the owner was able to comfortably move into a house half the size, cutting expensive and creating more free time for life and work. Clearing space does clear your mind!!!
