If you ask a large group of women what their perfect day would entail, a huge majority of them will include spending time at a health spa as part of it.  And who can blame them?  A health spa day is about more than just a glowing complexion and reducing some wrinkles.  It is about rejuvenating the spirit and giving yourself a much needed break.

There are literally millions of health spas offering a wide range of services and day packages.  The spas themselves differ in their style and presentation.  Some are heavily influenced by eastern cultures incorporating treatments from India, Japan, and Indonesia.  Others focus on traditional American and European therapies.  One of the most important things to consider when you choose the location for your health spa day is whether or not it appeals to your sense of aesthetics; if you don’t feel relaxed and at home there, you won’t benefit as much from the treatments.

One of the best ways to pick a spa is to get referrals from friends or family.  If you live in a large city there may be so many to choose from, it can be impossible to decide without some guidance.  Many cities also have business review websites where patrons can impartially voice their opinions of the service and staff.  Do a little research and make sure others are happy before you commit yourself to spending the day there.

Spas can be expensive, but there is a pretty wide range of prices on common services like massages and facials.  Check around to see if you are paying above average for your spa package, and also look for discount codes or coupons in your community mailers which can help you save on your services.
Once you’ve made decision and set an appointment, prepare yourself for your health spa day by getting plenty of rest the night before, and drinking water.  Many popular spa treatments work by helping to eliminate toxins from your body, and this can cause added stress to your immune system.  By drinking water, you will help your body purge these toxins and recover more quickly.

Most importantly, make a commitment to yourself to enjoy the day with no distractions.  Leave your cell phone and blackberry at home, forget about work and family even for a few hours, and simply allow yourself to benefit from the pampering!
